About the station

The station was the brainchild of David Chatten-Smith, a totally blind person and the chairperson of Helping hands for the blind a local registered charity in Basingstoke. ** pic of David **

David said “I wanted to build a useful community resource that will serve the great area we live in, but it needs to be accessible for all “. Founded in 2019, HHCR is a community radio station run entirely by volunteers covering Basingstoke, Hampshire and the surrounding areas.
Our focus is not only to encourage a sense of community for our listeners but also to actively promote Basingstoke and the surrounding areas with positivity and entertaining content and shows.

The station was set up by a grant from The National Lottery, and since then it has continued to grow and grow.
Our aim is to provide an opportunity for anyone interested in radio and the community to become actively involved with the radio station.

Awarded the ” Pride of Basingstoke ” award fromDestination Basingstoke, for Arts and entertainment in 2019 and with plans to launch on to the DAB platform in early 2022, the station has proved to be a true community service to the town.
